Dry January

Dry January Challenge

Dry January is a friendly, month-long pause from alcohol that happens every January. It began in the UK and is run by Alcohol Change UK's Dry January initiative. There is no pressure to be perfect forever. It is simply a 31-day reset to help you notice how alcohol fits into your life.

Why try it?

Healthier routines - A short break makes it easier to spot habits like automatic drinks after work or social pressure. Seeing those patterns helps you choose what to keep and what to change.

Confidence boost - Completing a month-long goal builds trust in yourself. That confidence often carries into other goals long after January ends.

Better sleep - Many people fall asleep faster and wake up more refreshed without late-night alcohol. More consistent sleep can improve memory, mood, and daily energy.

Clearer mind - A break often brings less brain fog and steadier focus. That can make work, learning, and everyday decisions feel easier.

Steadier mood - Alcohol can amplify anxiety and low mood. Removing it for a month can make emotions feel more even and predictable.

More energy - With better sleep and fewer hangovers, you may feel more motivated to move, stay active/fit, and handle the day without the drag.

Body reset - Many people notice less bloating, improved digestion, and easier weight management. Alcohol adds calories and can disrupt appetite cues.

How DrinkControl helps

Accountability - A simple daily log makes the goal real. You can see every day you kept your promise to yourself.

Honesty - The calendar gives you a clear, judgment-free record. It is easier to be truthful when the numbers are right in front of you.

Privacy - Your progress is personal, and it stays that way. Track your month without sharing details or asking anyone to keep you on track.

Motivation - Seeing streaks build and dry days pile up turns effort into momentum. Small wins keep you moving forward.

Start with a simple goal for January, then use the momentum to build a healthier rhythm for the rest of the year.
